Eating in Sleaze
The trouble with many London
restaurants is that more planning seems to go into what’s on the walls than
goes into what goes on the plates. And, sadly, that is what (1)…one about the
new restaurant called Sleaze. It (2)….a lot, which is what you’d expect from
the owner, Johnny Price who, after all, has created a number of fabulously
fashionable eating places around the city. He’s certainly been clever in
designing Sleaze. As you walk into the two-storey building, you feel as if
you’re back in the 1970s. (3)….on the walls are advertising (4)……from that
decade, the floors are covered in hexagonal tiles, and the seating is mostly
built-in circular sofas. But strangest of all, at the back of the restaurant,
behind a glass wall, are the gleaming tanks of a working brewery. Four (5)……of
the beer are on sale, and it’s not bad! It’s certainly a fun environment that
makes a good talking (6) throughout the meal.

My dinner (7)….off
to an excellent start, with an appetizer of wood-roasted vegetables. But for
the main course, I made the (8)….of ordering a salmon dish. It was more than an
hour before it arrived. My dining partner, himself a chef, took one (9)…..and
told me it was off. I sliced into it, and sure enough, it seemed undercooked. I
sent it back and when it (10)…..to reappear after another 30 minutes, settled
for a pizza topped with mozzarella, pesto and rocket. It was delicious!
- A took B got C went D made
- A slip B mistake C choice D fuss
- A stink B sneeze C sniff D snout
- A missed B failed C happened D waited

The natural environment
is something that is important
for many people. There are, after all, a far (1)…… number of arguments about

reason can be put (2)… to explain this?
Many people feel a need to (3)…… into close contact with the
natural environment but this feeling can turn(4)…… one of unease in some

Research into preferences has shed (11)……………… on the

(14)…. no surprise that people want to roam, as (15)…………as live, in the
countryside.
